VADM Robert L. Walters Scholarship

Who can Apply?

To be eligible for the Surface Navy Association scholarship, applicants must be members or dependents of members, with membership in its second consecutive year or beyond.

The member must be: active duty, retired, or honorably discharged and a Surface Warfare Officer, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, or a Permanent Cutterman. Also, must have at least three years of active duty on U.S. Navy or Coast Guard surface ships, though the service need not be consecutive. For children or spouses of personnel who died while serving, no minimum service period is required.

This scholarship is intended for full-time undergraduate or postgraduate studies. Fulltime status may be waived in the case of spouses as long as they maintain a course load of six semester hours. The selection process is blind and merit-based, considering academic achievements, extracurricular involvement, leadership, and character, without discrimination based on rank, race, gender, or other personal characteristics.

Application Requirements

All applicants MUST include the following with their completed application. Please have all documents ready to upload to the online application as applicants cannot save and continue later.

Recommendations and transcripts, if in sealed envelopes, can be mailed to: Surface Navy Association, Attn: Scholarship, 6564 Loisdale Ct, Suite 318, Springfield, VA 22150. Deadlines will apply to mailed items (postmarked 1 March).

Additional Requirements
High School Seniors	A transcript of your high school grades. Must include first semester of high school senior year. SAT and ACT scores are highly recommended. They are not required, but if submitted they may strengthen your application.
Active Duty or Drilling Reservists	A letter from your Commanding Officer commenting on your military service and leadership potential. A transcript of the grades from your most recent four semesters of school. SAT and ACT scores are highly recommended. They are not required, but if submitted they may strengthen your application.
College Applicants/Spouses	A transcript of the grades of your four most recent semesters of school to include high school transcript if 4 semesters of college have not been completed.
